Education was great. They provided hands-on learning. This school was very strict, which meant students didn't have much freedom, unlike promised. No phones could be used without permission, and dress code was unreasonable. Other highschools/middleschools allow students to have many more rights. The office staff was not open to me. I felt that some staff members in particular were not very fond of me. When someone in charge of the school doesn't treat you equal to other students, it completely ruins your experience there. I could imagine, if you are a teen who doesn't want to express themselves, you will have a great time there! If you do, you're out of luck. Not supported here. Students are almost forced to dress and act so conservatively it's not necessary. If you ever dared to be different like me and many other students tried, you would be punished. This school believes students must act and dress the same. The lack of individuality was ridiculous. The elementary school was great, but middle and high is a different story. They believe anything unique about a person is to be shamed. At least that's how me and my fellow students felt. As someone who is talented in the field of visual art, I joined this school for the soul purpose of the self-titled "arts school". Haha, no. There's AN art class. TAV ended at middle school and everything went downhill. This actually effected my art skills. I used to be able to work on advanced art projects, but at the new campus they don't care. They just tell you to work on it at home. As if we even have time to do that with all of the projects and homework they give us. I should be able to practice my best skill at a place I'm at 80% of the time. I do not consider this an art school and I hope they know many students don't either. It's all about sports, which few kids that came to an "art" school will want to do. Girls were also taught to cover their bodies and be shamed for their skin instead of teaching boys not to be distracted about a KNEE or a SHOULDER. In New Orleans, it gets to 105 degrees, not to mention the humidity. You expect us to dress like its 20 degrees, no thank you. I remember I missed an important test because I was sitting in the office waiting for my mother (who works night shifts!) to wake up and bring me a change of clothes because you could see my KNEE. They had the nerve to call and wake up my other, then go on about how distracting my attire was and tell her to bring me something more conservative. They held me in the office for an hour, which meant I missed my entire science class including the test. Asking for an ID replacement 5 minutes late meant detentions. There was an incident where the school traced back a students instagram and gave her detentions after finding it. Enough said. Parents, I would recommend taking your kids here for elementary then going somewhere else for 6-12. The only way this school would be a wonderful experience in middle and high was if you were a very conservative male who was into sports....
