Dr. Fong is a wonderful orthopedic doctor and surgeon. I appreciate how he handled my own knee surgery as well as my daughter's. It was only natural that I chose him when the same daughter had an ankle injury. We made the appointment over a week a head of time. The office worker asked if my insurance had changed and I told them, "No, I still have the same insurance." The appointment was the day before Thanksgiving. Even though there is lots to do surrounding the holiday, we took this appointment because she needed to be seen. We get into the office, pay a past balance we owed. Then we proceed to fill out 30 minutes of paperwork. The receptionist first informs me that because she was a former patient, Dr. Fong would see her but if she needs surgery, he would have to refer her out. This was due to policy changes in our insurance. I told her that's fine. I just want my daughter to be seen so we know what to do from there. I go back to that paperwork. I am just about to be completed, the receptionist now informs me that my insurance changed their policy on out-of-network doctors and they cannot see us at all. So here I am, mad as heck, wasted 30 minutes driving there and 30 minutes on paperwork. The one thing that annoyed me most is that the receptionist informed me across the waiting room. There were other patients in the lobby. You think, due to Hippa privacy laws, she would have politely called me to her window and informed me privately. It is a shame that an office staff can ruin a doctor's reputation. After all, they deal with patients too. We will not be back and we definitely won't be recommending Dr. Fong's services any longer.
